Goalball Central team rankings and rating system.
The Team Rating Index (TRI) is a season-long, performance-based ranking system designed to reflect competitive results across sanctioned goalball tournaments. Rankings are intended to support tournament seeding, competitive balance, and public reporting. (For research purposes only.)
All sanctioned matches played during the season are included in the calculation.
Games played, total points earned, and goal differential are tracked across every sanctioned event throughout the season.
Each team receives a Base Rating that emphasizes both winning efficiency and scoring performance over the course of the season.
By using average goal differential per game rather than total goal differential, the Team Rating Index rewards teams that consistently perform well while allowing fair comparisons between teams that may have played different numbers of games.
To recognize success in tournament play, placement bonuses are added to a team's Base Rating.
Placement bonuses reward podium finishes while ensuring that season-long performance remains the primary factor in the rankings.
A team's Final Rating is calculated by adding any earned tournament placement bonuses to its Base Rating.
Teams are ranked from highest to lowest Final Rating. Rankings are updated following each sanctioned tournament and published on a monthly basis.
Rankings apply to teams that maintain reasonable roster continuity throughout the season.
Teams unable to meet this standard may be temporarily listed at the bottom of the rankings until eligibility is restored.
Rankings are updated automatically as tournament results are added and remain in effect until the next published update.
If no sanctioned matches are played during a given period, rankings remain unchanged.
Suppose a team plays 10 games, earns 20 match points, and finishes with a +15 goal differential.
The Team Rating Index is designed to reward sustained performance across an entire season rather than relying only on a team's record or a single tournament result. It considers match points, scoring margin efficiency, and podium finishes while adjusting for differences in games played.
